THESIS
Franklin Delano Roosevelt had a long lasting impact on our country. This is not just because he was around for more than three terms, but because he performed many great things that helped our country spring back up after the Great Depression. There were so many Acts that he provided our country with that you lose track of all of them. All of which allowed our country to recover after a terrible time period. Because of these, FDR deserves a solid A for his presidency. If it wasn't for all of these great actions, it's hard to say where are country was headed.
DEMOGRAPHICS
Throughout Franklin Delano Roosevelt's presidency, there were quite a few things that affected the demographics of our nation. Overall, Roosevelt's whole New Deal plan affected the demographics in many aspects. With the United Sates having gone through the Great Depression, actions were needed to be taken to help out the people. The Civilian Conservation Corps provided younger men in poorer families with jobs, built roads, planted trees, and helped out the needy by giving them some food and shelter. When looking at this, all of these things helped out the living conditions for our citizens. If this help wasn't given, who knows what could have happened to many people. I can only imagine that manywould have died from lack of necessities. But this action of FDR's was certainly not the only thing that helped out. So many others like the Tennessee Valley Authority, Agricultural Adjustment Acts, Federal Securites Act, and the National Housing Act provided our population with various needs such as jobs, trust in the economy, housing, and electricity. All of this allowed our population to gain some strength back and continue to grow. Without them, the population of this nation could have seen some number changes.
GOALS
After having four innaugural addresses, and having big events happen such as the Great Depression and World War II, Franklin Delano Roosevelt had a numerous amount of goals. "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself". What a true statement. At this point in time, Americans were down in the dumps. FDR was trying to assure Americans that there were some silver linings in the worls. One of Roosevelt's goals in his first term was to provide Americans with jobs. He definitely accomplished this. A couple of acts gave jobs to citizens such as the TVA and the CCC. In term two, his inaugural address acknowledged all of the hardships that the United States was going through. Just to name a few, there was lack of jobs, lack of education, and lack of proper living. Franklin Roosevelt saw that he needed to try and fix these problems. Again, through many of the acts, there were ways of helping out these issues. In FDR's third inaugural address, he was mentioning that the lives of our citizens should be lived to the fullest. There should be no downside of things. Everybody should have great human spirit. I would say that Americans were starting to brighten up after the Great Depression. Finally in his fourth inaugural address, he mentioned how we could not live alone in this world. We were going to need to interact with other nations in order to have peace in our lives. Unfortunately, he was unable to finish his term due to his death, but I am sure that he would have had us knowing that the rest of the world is sharing the planet with us.
RELATIONSHIP WITH CONGRESS
Throughout the long time frame of Franklin Roosevelt's presidency, him and congress got together very well. So much so that he tried to stack congress with people of his choice. Besides this though, Congress and FDR passed a countless amount of acts and performed so many actions that helped out our nation. Both were on the same page of the New Deal idea and trying to cover the three R's: Relief, Recovery, Reform. All their actions were done to try and help out our country. Together, they were able to help solve some of the existing problems. Throughthe three R's, congress was able to give FDR some extraordinary blank check powers. A relationship like this between congress and the president allows for some smooth sailing during the terms. Overall, the two worked together very nice.
PRESIDENT AND ADMINSTRATION ACTIONS.
Again, all throughout Franklin Delano Roosevelt's terms as president, he and his administration proved to have great actions.During World War II, Roosevelt did a good job of staying out of the action until we were forced to come in. Even though Adolph Hitler was doing terrible things at the time, I feel as though it was smart to stay out of these events. One of the last things our country needed was a big target on us after just finally starting to get up on our feet. During the war, I'm glad we made it known that we were a force to be reckoned with. With Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor, it was good that we fought back. It showed that we weren't push-overs. Plus in the end, eventhough it had a huge devistating effect, the bombings in Japan were an exclamation point on our part in the war. This reinforced that the USA was strong as a nation. Some of these key deisions between FDR and his adminstration allowed America to gain some respect and status throughout the world.
FUTURE IMPACTS
Franklin Delano Roosevelt definitely had some major impacts on our nation's future. He was able to show how a country can bounce back even after a tough time in history. He also showed how a president and his congress can get a lot done when they are both on the same page. Finally, he was able to give the United States a powerful status in the world after the war. The US was now a strong country that could solve almost any problem that was placed before them.
CONCLUSION
In the end, Franklin Delano Roosevelt was an awesome president. All three full terms had no dissapointments. He was able to accomplish many things that allowed our country to prosper and continue to grow. I have no reaqson doubting his solid A that I have awarded him.
